Okay, I wish I could post some pictures, but my computer will not connect to the wired internet in our apartment in Rome. I have a firewall installed for work and it will only let me connect wirelessly so I'm stuck using Woody's and cannot upload pictures from here for some reason.
We arrived here yesterday (Friday) and met Dave and Cindy at the airport. Their plane landed from Alabania about the same time. We waited almost an hour on the car that was to pick us up that never arrived so we finally negotiated the same rate with a gypsy cab driver. Immediately we went in search of food, which was only a few steps from our door. There are outdoor cafes everywhere. I cannot wait to upload the pictures so you can see all the beautiful food.
Dave and Woody have been wonderful tour guides - with the help of the fancy plastic covered map of Roma. We have negotiated every side street around - to include one where we were sure the mafia bike riders were selling drugs.
Yesterday was made it to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain (where the girls threw in their money), the Pantheon, and the Piazza Navona (the fountain there was undergoing renovation), all before making it back to the apartment to crash.
Up and out fairly early to have coffee and a ham and cheese croissant. Then off to St. Peter's and the Vatican. Dave and Cindy opted out of visiting the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel so we separated and will meet back up for dinner. Cindy's boss in Albania was formerly detailed to Rome. We have reservations for dinner at a restaurant where his son spent last summer working.
Tomorrow we will visit the Forum and Coliseum.
While we have loved the sites of Prague and Rome, we are also looking forward to getting back to the countryside of Germany.
At the rate we are going, we should be washing dishes by mid week. The Euro is a killer.
Ciao,
Mama Mia
