What a transition we had from Rome this morning. Got up and out do let the girls do a little shopping at the flea market booths across the river from our apartment. I went to the ATM and it would not allow me to withdraw any money. I tried several times and do not know what the problem was.
We found Woody, who was waiting for us in the sunshine on the steps and got his card. At this point we had no money for trinkets and no money for a cab ride to the airport. I took his card and headed back to the ATM and sent him on with the girls back to the apartment to meet the owner who was coming to inspect it before returning our E 100 deposit.
Now, we had already had a small accident when Ellie and Emma began horsing around and knocked a framed poster off the wall and broke the frame. At this point I was praying that they would not hold the entire amount for the $10 poster and we'd have enough left to pay the E 40 to get to the airport.
Woody met the guy and he only charged us E30 - about $52 - so we had enough for the cab fare. In the meantime, I was able to get some money from Woody's ATM card. But we had run out of time for shopping. I had hailed a cab on my walk back from the bank and ran up to gather everyone to get in. As we were about to pull off, the owner came running down the street to say we had not given him back both set of keys. Emma swore she left them in the apartment so up the four flights of stairs I go looking for them. Did not find them - so the guy wanted to charge me E 20 for the set of keys. I finally talked him into letting me mail them back if I found them.
Emma insisted she had left them upstairs so we start out together to look for them. I asked her to bring her bookbag and make sure they were not in there, but she was sure they were not. But lo and behold - there they were. Patient cab drived waited with us as all this was transpiring.
Made it to the airport and then to Munich. Rented a car and headed up to Dachau. "Sue" our trusty GPS brought us right here and even found us a nice B&B to stay in. Unfortunately it is unairconditioned. After cold showers, we are trying to settle in for the night, but there is a church next door that has a clock tower. Rings on the hour and every 15 minutes. We are all about to take Nyquil!!
For some reason I am still unable to upload pictures. We will be at the Armed Forces Center for the next to nights in Garmish so should have American power and Internet.
Emma is eager and apprehensive about going to the museum tomorrow as she said she cried in school when they were reading books about the concentration camps. We discussed whether it was something she really wanted to do, but she insists that it is.
Will report in from the Alps tomorrow.

After I read this,I had flashback to a mad search for Emma's glasses one day at school. We searched everywhere, were to the point of giving up and she was about to have a major "come apart". I told her to look one more time in her book bag and guess what we found!!!! Kids........You gotta love um!!!!!
Come home soon!!!! We miss you. It seems like you have been gone forever. We are headed to Destin at the end of the week so we won't see you till we get back.
love you,
LaLa
